MONCTON NB — On May 22 Hubcity Theatre and local band Hone the Craft join forces for one amazing night of entertainment. The two groups are collaborating to bring a special presentation of Hubcity Theatre’s production of ROOMIES to Moncton audiences.
ROOMIES focuses on the friendship of 'David' (played by Paul David Power) and ‘Nick' (played by Steve Ryan), two students with opposing personalities forced to share a dorm room during the late 1960s. The plot follows the development of the two young men’s friendship through one academic year, addressing the issues raised by David's disability, Nick's selfish nature and other stresses put on a friendship.
The play is set in the 1960s and music plays a big role in the show. Hone the Craft will be performing throughout the play with their renditions of music from the era as well as an additional set for audiences once the play is over.
“This is a play I call integrated theatre - and we need more of it,” says writer and lead actor Paul David Power. “I think ROOMIES helps in furthering arts diversity in Atlantic Canada by integrating a character who happens to have a disability in a broader story rather than have the disability be the only focus of the story. Having Hone the Craft play with us for our Moncton show just adds more fun and entertainment value to the show.”
“We were thrilled when Hubcity Theatre came and asked us to participate in this special night,” said Hone the Craft lead singer and musician Laura McPhee. “It’s a great show and it really lends itself to incorporating live music. It’s a great chance for us to play for our fans in a unique setting and context.”
Hubcity Theatre’s ROOMIES with special musical guest Hone the Craft plays at the Beausejour Curling Club in Moncton on May 22 at 8 pm. Tickets are $20 and available online at https://roomiesmoncton.eventbrite.ca or by cash or credit at the door.
